Title: Sharing USB
Post by: Sokko on February 23, 2011, 12:03:01 pm
Hello,

I am very impressed with all products you made.

One thing is bothering me: cables.
If I order Rev-burner, SPI-D and Sim Screen is it possible to connect them in series with one USB cable? I would cut the cable and weld the wires directly to the boards.
With Eyefinity, G25, Leo's pedal adapter, mouse, keyb, headphones... last thing I need is 3 more USB cables.

Hello.
you can't connect usb devices in series, but you can install a small usb hub near your cockpit and have only one cable running to your computer.

How much current is needed for these 3 devices.

As far as I am informed single USB port can provide 0.5Amps.
If I need more than that for all 3 than I have to find a hub with external power source and that would add one more cable on the cockpit.
So I would end up with 2 instead of 3 cables.

Just to clarify my worries. Currently, on my cockpit there are:
- 3 DVI cables for monitors (Eyefinity)
- 3 power cables for monitors
- USB cable for G25 + interconnection for shifter
- USB Leo Bodnar adapter for pedals
- power supply for G25
- USB for webcam
- USB for keyboard
- USB for mouse
- audio cable for headphones

Maybe I should get 7-ports, powerd USB hub and stick my keyb, mouse, camera and simprojects stuff in it. Now, that would be an improvement.
I hope that wont cause difficulties for your devices?

The Rev Burner + SPI-D + SiomScreen shoould stay below 500mA.

You can use the 7 ports hub, there is no problem with that.
