Title: I have a product question.
Post by: mikeperry on September 09, 2011, 11:42:03 am
I was wondering is Symprojects going to make a product so I can run a complete set of gauges. I purchased the revburner for my 5" Proparts Spek gauge, but i would like to get the others working (Oil pressure, fuel qty, volt's). IF so I'll be the first one tossing money your way!!

Hello.
The controller for the other gauges is in my TODOs list. I am not working on that at the moment because doing other stuff but I want to make it at some point...

Could this be done in software only, using revburners and cheap tachometer motors?

I am currently making a set of gauges (tachometer, speedo, fuel, water temp). If the revburners could read the data from the game, it would be possible to use a tachometer motor to drive the fuel and water temp needles.

What I'm suggesting is a "Revburners for fuel/water temp/oil press", kind of the same software update as the "revburner for speed".

Cristiano,

Do you have a time frame of when your going to be working on this?

I'm in no hurry, I'm in Iraq on deployment. But if your working on it here soon, then I'll hold off trying stuff my brain trying to figure out how to do it with my Ardunio UNO kit.

Thanks,

Mike

I hope to start working on that before the end of the year. then, if hte project is doable, it will require minimum few months (3-4)

If you want to do that, I suppose I can make the required changes to SimDash.

Well, it depends on the cost realy...

If/When your new product comes out it will be significantly cheaper than (in my case) two-three additional rev burners + two-three cheap tachos, then I would prefere to wait.

But since the "new product" is so far away, I have no hopes of getting a price range on it, and with that in mind, I would by two-three more revburners to run two-three more gauges, (fuel lvl, water temp and/or oil press.) if you are able to make a revburner "display anything".

Is there a limit to how many revburners you could have in one setup?

Maybe a new version of SimDash could just list Revburner No 1, Revburner No. 2 etc. etc. on the instruments tab, and then you get a pulldown box to select what you want that revburner to show. (Speed, RPM, fuel, oil press, turbo press etc etc.)

I suppose a board to drive rev counter, speedometer and additional gauges would cost less than 3 rev burners.
I think you should wait if you can

Hmm, I would not mind trying out the software change to see if it would work, right now I have nothing but time to test stuff like this. Would this require a firmware change of the revburner board as well?

If you do make a change to the software and need some one to test it I have 3 Poparts Spek Gauges (Volts, Fuel Qty, oil psi) I picked up from ebay. They are High dollar gauges I got a deal on.

I am in the process of building my cockpit now. (Going for a sidepod setup with ACT LABs shifter, Fanatecs Handbrake (when it is released...), and Fahim's "Ferrari Dials" (http://www.symprojects.com/forum/index.php?topic=41.0 (http://www.symprojects.com/forum/index.php?topic=41.0))

So, I have have a bit of time befor I "need" the new gauge controller. However, I allready own 2 x revburners, and 2 tachos (one for speed and one for revs), so that cost is already "sunk".
If the new product is a board to controll ALL the guages, that would make my revburners obsolete. Would be practial though, just haveing one "master guage board", instead of up to 5 boards with their own powersupply and usb cables...

I would also be more than happy to test out new beta software that use revburners to display other data.
