Title: Rev Burner and R34 cluster
Post by: questerymj on February 21, 2012, 10:06:53 am
Hello all,

I got a Gauge cluster of Nissan Sykline ER34 and plan to use them with Rev Burner, but before this
I would like to make sure if it can be used with Reb burner.

The back board(PCB) of cluster looks like this:

http://cdn.mkimg.carview.co.jp/minkara/note/000/001/714/872/1714872/p7.jpg?ct=14d6e2b4f618

Tachometer and speedo have 4 screws/connectors, fuel/temp have 3. There are only little texts like
"S+" "S-" marked in the board where they are fixed to like this:

http://cdn.mkimg.carview.co.jp/minkara/note/000/001/714/872/1714872/p3.jpg?ct=14d6e2b4f618

Looks like Tacho and speedo both have 2 pairs of connectors, but I don't know what they are and if they can be connect to rev burner directly.

Can any one give me some advice or hint?

If anyone need more detail photos about these gauges I can post some.

Thanks in advanced!

not sure if I can help, but I just recently picked up a Integra cluster, my Civic wiring didn't work so I just crimped some ring connectors and used the screws from the Tach.  My cluster has markings with "gnd" "+ign" and "-ign" and I went from there.  my tach works just waiting on the new board to run my other gauges.

To Jadran :

Thank you! I roughly find out the connectors to power the MCU is 9/29(+12V) and 55(ground).

But I can't understand how to connect the rev burner to meters...just connect the 30 and 31 (speed signal) to rev burner, since the power and ground are already provide by MCU itself?@@

To mr.w:

I plan to connect the meter to rev burner directly. But there are 4 connector/screws in the meter, and it looks like a simple aircore meter(a metal tube) without lamp/backlight. Need to figure which one is signal, which one is +12V and which one is ground.

Maybe I should just use the way in another thread, use a multi-meter to test which connectors are link to +12V and ground. But I still can't make sure... ???

Another question, should I use 2 pulse or 8 pulse signal?

The detail photo of connectors of tacometer  in PCB backside.

I'd just tested them by multimeter, the 2 pair of connectors have 0 resister value...they are just connected?

Hi!
Did you see pic above?
You have all pinouts that you need!!

on Meter Control Circuit:

pin 20 - Water temperature input

pin 7 - Fuel input

pin 6 - RPM input

pin 19 - Vehicle speed input

pin 9 - BAT(GND)

pin 29 - IGN (ACC)

EDIT:

if you not see pic above, here is  ;)

To Jadran :

Thank you sir! I'd see the pictures, but I'm a electronic noob and not sure how to deal with these signals.:P

For a example, If I want to drive the tachometer, I just need to connect the 12V to (29), Ground to (55) and rpm meter signal  to (6)? from rev burner to MCU? Sorry these get me confused.

Yesterday I'd try power the MDU and it lived! Nothing else to do with it without rev burner or pro shift yet...but this made me very exciting!:D

Maybe this pic help

P.S.

RPM meter signal(6) connect to RevBurner (first pic gray cable)

Roger that! So I just need to connect the S+ connector on the Revburner to the MCU connector, and the meters on the cluster are powered by MCU . Thank you!

I think the rest work is order revburner to test...:P

any update on this?

Hello all, I just finish the test of my ER-34 cluster.

The basic result is good. Rev counter works great, but Speedo is not. No matter how do I set the pulse per mimute for per km, the setting will back to 5000 pulse/km and my max speed will just go to 80 km/hr( max is 180 km/hr). When i doing test the speedo will go to 80 km/hr when set pulse to 67164.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

My Nissan 200sx s13 cluster is on its way. Hopefully we could help each other out in case I get the same problem (or others) :)

Good luck in the meantime

Thank you mate. I think you can mod your cluster easily like me, just connect 4 cables from connectors.

I'm a bit worry about the speedo. The document said rev burner can create maxinum 67184 pulse per mimute to drive the speedo meter, and it just go to 80 with max output...and I feel the documents made me confusing. I don't know if I can set 20000 pulses per km etc.

I wish Cristiano can give me some advice. :P

questerymj, any chance you could take photo of how you connected it? I'm on my way home from work and will go get my S13 cluster on the way home.
Bottom line, I have NO IDEA what so ever how this stuff works. All I know is that I have 2x rev burners and a S13 cluster :)

I have seen the guide on symprojects and have a basic electronics knowledge but I have never seen a cluster irl so in case you have a photo of the back of your cluster that shows how you connected it please post it here :)

I noticed a new firmware was posted in another thread... Seems like great support around here! :)

Of course mate...But I don't know how much does this can help you.

I only can said, you must find out the power feed (+12V and GND), speed output and revcounter out pin in your connectors.

You can connect +12V and GND from one of the rev burner to your cluster to power the cluster control unit. Then connect the S1 of both rev burner to rev counter and speedo(the one use for speedo need to update certain firmware). All I had done is connect 4 wires. I'm very lucky that dear Jardran had find out all of these for me...

And for the new firmware, I get to 165km/h of 180 km/h with it today. If Cristiano do some more tweak it will be perfect. I think this will work for your S13 cluster too because they are both made my nissan...:)

Thanks questerymj!

I took photos of my cluster and it looks like nothing else I've seen  :-\
I will now post photos and keep everything in the thread I started a few days ago:
