Title: USB cord do's and don'ts?
Post by: ItsDaPlumber on June 30, 2014, 05:36:00 pm
Are there any? Short ones, long ones, extensions, multiple extensions, USB3.0 extensions, ferrites, no ferrites. Is there a way to verify if a USB cord is 1.0, 2.0, or 3.0.

Thanks,
darren

Hello.
I am not an expert but I think that a USB 3.0 cable has a physically different plug.
it should be retro compatible with 2.0 cables but the plug looks different.

I didn't know there was any difference between 1.0 and 2.0 cables. but I suspect all the cables you can by are suitable for USB 2.0

I thought i read something about not using a USB 1.0 cord. Then i thought, "How do you tell the difference?"
A USB 3.0 extension is the same USB. i think it carries more power or something, not sure.

USB cables tend to have their spec(1.0/1.1/2.0/3.0) printed on the sheath. Though this is not a guarantee of quality.

Stay away from cheap cables, especially(directly) from china. The wire and insulation materials used can seriously degrade performance, which translates into a slow and unreliable connection.
