Title: Spek Gauges
Post by: joey3105 on May 15, 2016, 07:27:59 am
Could someone give me some tips on how to set up my Spek gauges I have the Tach, Fuel Level, Water Temp and Oil Temp gauges. I also have the Glowshift Oil Pressure gauge too but the needle is stuck on 100 any help would be appreciated.

Hello.
I was able to make some Spek Gauges work but I don't have the details any more.

But I will tell you what I did.
First of all, you need a potentiomemter.
you want a multi turns linear potentiometer of value 10K (10.000 ohm). the value is not critical. it could be 5k.

something like this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-Pack-3296-Multiturn-Variable-Resistors-Potentiometer-Preset-Trimmer-Pot-/121694846730

it is importante the potentiometer is multi turns and linear.

now, the main connections from the gauge are:

when the gauge is connected to the Pro-Gauge, take the potentiometer and connected the pin the center to the signal wire of the gauge.

connect ONE pin at the sides of the  potentiometer to the 12V terminal of the Pro-Gauge.

Open the Pro-Gauge configuration screen and move all the slides to the left, to zero.

Start rotating the potentiometer's screw in one direction or in the opposite one. at some point you should be able to see the needle moving. if it doesn't move, disconnect the pin of the potentiometer connected to 12V and connect it to GND instead.

If this work and the needle moves, position the needle around the middle position and configure the gauge using the Pro-Gauge configuration screen.  if the gauge is too sensitive to the adjustments made in the configuration screen, move the blue jumper from position 1 to a higher one.

you have to play around a little bit with the potentiometer, the configuration screen and the blue jumper.

if you manage to make this sequence work but the needle keeps oscillating up and down, a small capacitor will help.
you will need a 220nF capacitor rated at 24V minimum. the longer pin must be connected to the S1...S6 terminal and the shortest one to the GND terminal.

This is a general approach that so far worked for me in many case. it is fundamental that you are able to make the needle move using the potentiometer.

Regards
Cristiano

Awesome Thanks Cristiano I'll give that a try!

I have the same set of Spek gauges and was able to set them up without using a potentiometer.  I also did not have to change any of the jumpers.

For the Fuel Level gauge, make sure you select Fuel Level %.  I found for Fuel Level, Water Temp, and Oil Temp, the gauges respond in a very narrow range of 0-57. You may be using too wide a range and thus not seeing the gauges react.

My 11K Tach has a wider range of 966-11556.

I know there are issues with getting any type of pressure gauge to work and you may have to use a potentiometer for that.

I got the Tach Oil Temp and Water Temp gauges to work still can't figure out the fuel level gauge and as for the cheap Glowshift Oil Pressure gauge it was broke so I'm thinking about getting the Fuel Pressure and Oil Pressure gauges from Quickcar http://www.quickcar.com/redline-1/

Hello Nimzovich.
Would you share the exact model number of your gauges? as a reference for other people?

Cristiano,

I'm not sure about the model numbers, but they are the Spek Pro Gauges.  I think the only difference in model numbers is the color of the gauge face, bezel and lens color.

So youre saying 4 cylinder gauges, the speedometer works? Can this be verified? Id buy a tach converter if maybe Don from RPM could verify this
