Title: Sim screen not working freezes
Post by: racerfed on May 17, 2012, 05:54:35 am
Hello;
Im experciencing some of the issues that others have posted re simscreen, simdash, v1.3.5   Installed, along with saved simscreens (from the gallery) and configured rfactor. Simscreen shows only the flashscreen and does not advance any of the saved screens when using the buttons.
Does not work with iracing, rfactor and Gtr2.

When I open simdash configure screen it will not allow me to close. Only method is to log off, or restart.

I tried uninstall and reinstall.....negative results.

Besides simscreen, I have  slipro working with no issues.

I also tried the method and member posted about unpluging the simscreen via usb and replugging before starting simdash and this did not work.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

this is the symptom i suffered from before realising the problem.
doesn't pressing ctrl-alt-del allow you to kill the simdash.exe process, or must you logoff/restart?

Hello.
Sorry for the problem you have, I have been trying to track down where it happens.
If it is ok, I would ask you to try this modified version of SImDash 1.3.5:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3544050/SimDash.1.3.5.SS.zip

(extract the content of the file into a new folder)

Start SimDash and use it until it freezes.
when it is blocked, check the folder where you have copied the files. you should find a file with name SimDashLog.txt

that file contains information on what SImDash was doing before blocking. Can you send it to me please?
it will be very useful in order to fix this bug.

Hello

I copied the modified file to a new folder. Extracted all contents, named it simdash2.

I started simdash through the desktop icon and when I got to the configure screen and tried to exit it froze just as usual. The simscreen is not reactive to button prompts, it only shows the flash screen and none of the saved screens that have been downloaded and are showing in the config screen.

I checked the modified file and I show no text log file....ONLY in the original simdash file.

Thanks, I would appreciate any further input.

what happens when you go into that new folder (simdash2) and you click on the exe file? i mean don't use the desktop shortcut which is likely still linking to the original simdash.exe.
BTW, what does happen when you try to close simdash via ctrl+alt+del?

Hello;

WHen I exit, clt alt del or exit normally with modified file Christiano sent I can get out normally. Not the case with the original file.

There is the icon for simdash.exe, is that what you are reffering to? But no simdash.exe iexcept for simdash.exe config.

Should I use the modified file instead? Would this work?

I found the text log file in the modified file but it is too large to attach or cut and paste.

Thanks

Hello;

Update.....The simscreen and screendash NOW function using the modified folder that Christiano sent me. I can easily exit out of the program as well.

Should I delete the unmodified v5 and develop a shortcut for the modified folder?

Thanks

Hello.
if you start SimDash using the link on your desktop you are using the original version of SimDash, but the modified one.
To start the modified version double click SimDash.exe how you are doing now.

Keep using the modified version. the new version of SimDash will include those changes and hopefully everything will working fine.

There is one more test I would like you to do if you want.
could you please edit SimDash.exe.config file (in the modified version)

change the following like:

<level value="ALL"/>

in this way:

<level value="ERROR"/>

save the file and start SimDash. does it freeze again?

if it does, put the

<level value="ALL"/>

back.

Thank you for your help.
