Title: 2 and 3 color led's
Post by: Sticky22 on March 31, 2013, 02:37:50 am
Will these work with a proshift or a dlc-247?  They have multiple leads and several different colors inside one bulb

thanks
Scott

Multi-colour LEDs are no different from regular LEDs. They pack together a number of LED "cores" in one bulb.

However, the way they are connected internally can present a problem. Just like multi segment displays, either the positive(anode) or negative(cathode) leads are grouped together. A 3-colour LED for example will only have 4 legs.

The DLC-247(and presumably the proshift) switch the negative side of the LED, therefore all connected displays/LED matrices must be common anode.

So yes, multi-colour LEDs will work, provided they are common anode.
