Hello.
In general digital and analog tachometers work in the same, so you should have no problem with yours.

Regarding the oil gauge, at the moment it is not supported but we are designing a board that will support that type of gauge.

Cristiano

Cristiano,

If you need a tester for your new board I have an entire Dash full awaiting your new creation! The Tach is run on your rev burner!

No, the DLC247 is a different board.

From this thread: http://www.symprojects.com/forum/index.php?topic=333.0

"Hi.
I am definitely doint a controller for those gauges, or at least I will try.
But as I said in another post I will start working on that project at the end of November because first I have to complete another controller which will be available in few weeks.

Cheers
Cristiano"

We all can't wait for the board to drive other gauges!!!

Nice set up.

What type of interface do those gauges have. 2 wires for the power and 1 for the signal?

Thanks

Cristiano,

yes, a + and a - plus a Signal (If that is what it is called) all run off of 12volt. I tested the gauges with the revburner (Only power) and placed them in demo mode. All works like a charm, just waiting for your product!

Thanks Denis! Little over the top, but worth every penny. Each 2" Gauge retail for $200-250 the Tach's are retail for $340-$390. So I have a total of $1500.00 in gauges but only paid $650.00 (God I love ebay!)

Very nice Mike, where did the dash come from? Could you tell us about the gauge's, for example are there oil pressure, engine temp etc .. I am working on my rig http://www.symprojects.com/forum/index.php?topic=402.0 and a dash is looking very good. I am overwhelmed with so many choices ATM.

SO they work with the rev burner? I wasn't expecting that. I thought the rev burner's signal wasn't compatible.
I need to investigate better those gauges. DO you have a link to these products?

Thank you.

What Mike has done is hook the gauges up to the RevBurner to use the 12v to power them, then ran the gauges in "demo" mode. (Edit: Didn't read all of Mike's post he said the same thing, sorry for the repetition.)

You can find info on the gauges here:

The gauges were running off the 12V from the revburner, I want to hook all of them up but like that and video them, But I'm afraid I might blow the board up or a gauge.

Now the gauges I have are the Old 10pin, the new wiring diagrams on their website are now 12pin, and the pin out is not the same. I'm still searching for the 10pin diagrams for the 2 1/16" gauges.

Cristiano, I have an extra Fuel PSI Gauge if you need one to test. Let me know.

The dsah came from ebay there are several out there, search on ebay for "NASCAR DASH" and you should see them, now you can have this one for $1300.00 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/NASCAR-SPEK-PRO-GAUGE-COT-FULL-DASH-PLUG-AND-PLAY-ALL-WIRING-10-PIN-FULL-DASH-/380394746408?pt=Race_Car_Parts&vxp=mtr&hash=item58914b3228)

And here is the link to what is on ebay right now for dashes.

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p3984.m570.l1313&_nkw=NASCAR+GAUGE+DASH&_sacat=See-All-Categories

I have every gauge the NASCAR CUP Cars have:

FUEL PSI
OIL TEMP
OIL PSI
VOLT
Water PSI
Water TEMP

News would be great!

is it possible to get one board for 5 or more gauges? Most of our games tell us informations about fuel %, oil temp, oil psi and water temp.

your new Rev Burner board have now a S2 Pin. Is it possible to use it?

I was thinking of using the S2 to drive a speedometer. it needs a firmware upgrade though

Just wondering if the new rev burner has utilised the S2 pin yet? Ie can we run a rev counter and speedo off the same board? I'm looking at starting another setup and trying to price it all up.

Thanks

It will support a rev counter, a speedometer and 6 outputs for: fuel level, water temp, oil temp, oil pressure, turbo pressure (yet to be tested). These are the gauges I have investigated. I don't think there are others available but anyway there is a 6th output left.

All those gauges work in a similar way and accept the same type of signal, so to a given output you could connect the fuel level gauge or the oil pressure one, for example.

All the gauges must be "electronic", which means they receive an electric signal from the "sender".

Oil and turbo pressure gauges are also evailable as "mechanical" gauges and are connected with a small pipe to different parts of the engine. That type of gauges doesn't work.

Just a quick update on the state of the new controller: I have just finished the assembly of the last (I hope) prototype.
It will be tested this week and if it works I will order the boards.

I have attached a picture of how it looks like. this one has been hand soldered so it doesn't look very good.
On one side there are the USB and power supply connectors.

On the other side there are the connections for the 12V, rev counter, speedometer and 6 gauges.

Good to see this project nearing completion. Ever since the RevBurner was released I would say this has been one of the most anticipated Symprojects products.

Will the new board be able to power all connected gauges, or will we need to wire up a separate power supply(I.E. not just the wall wart that plugs into the board itself).

Slightly offtopic; I've noticed the RevBurner displayed in the shop appears to have two outputs(S1 and S2, presumably RPM and Speed). Was this an announced feature? The documentation (http://www.symprojects.com/connecting-a-rev-counter-to-the-rev-burner-board/) says it's not yet functional, so I can only speculate. Is it waiting for a simdash update?

The board will power all the connected gauges with the power supply connected to the DC connector. of course if the standard power supply is not powerful enough it has to be replaced with a suitable one.
Power can also connected to the board using the 12V connector on the other side (the long row of black terminal blocks).

Regarding the S2 terminal of the existing rev burner, I have added it when I ordered a new batch of PCBs. I have't decided yet what to do with that. I am not sure it will be worth upgrading the rev burner when the new controller will be available, but I could be wrong. I will decide when the new controller is available.

At this point I am afraid it is too late, but that's a good point.
I wish I had thought about.

I will investigate if I can do that in the 2nd version of the board.

Thank you
Cristiano

any update on the possibility of add the pro shift function to the board.

At this point is to late to add that functionality to the board.
I have been thinking these 2 option:

- leave the board as it is and add that function to the next version.

- OR add an extra connector to the board to connect "expansion" boards with new functionalities, such as one that will drive LEDs or 12 bulbs.

A+++! for the second option.

My vote goes to the expansion board as well.

In fact, I've been thinking for a while that having a single master board that connects over USB with several expansion boards providing additional features could be an improvement over the current multi-USB method. It's been in use in flight simming for a while now. Flight Illusion and Open Cockpits use such a structure, among others.

For those of us without dedicated racing rigs having only one USB cable would be convenient, and reduce clutter.

It could also benefit the simscreen, as the fat USB cable can be replaced by a thinner and/or more flexible cable(The main reason I haven't mounted anything to my wheel rim).

I would argue not needing a USB interface could also reduce cost, though PIC have it built in so you'd only save on the USB connector(though you'd need something to connect boards together instead).

Of course, I'm just thinking aloud. The current system works well, it's just that it makes for such a mess of wires(Even when using a USB hub).

It shouild be available quite soon.
I have ordered the boards last week and I will receive them in 3 weeks.
Meanwhile I have been working on the software and documentation.
It should take no longer than a couple of month from now.

Since these are non-mechanical and are electronically controlled with stepper motors, are these the type of guages that will work with the new board?

There are only two types of Gauges one being Mechanical and the others are Electrical. The gauges you linked are Electrical and should work, I have a set of Spek Pro's, Just like the ones the NASCAR Cup teams use. The Spek's use a small stepper motor as well and get the data the same way by a sender the either changes the volts or the Ohms. I have tested this with my gauges and have a potentiometer connected to 3 wires and when I move the pot the needle moves. So I'm pretty sure that the gauges you linked will work. But if you want to wait I'll test with my gauges to make sure. Here is a pic of my gauges.

Too bad I already have two revburners and the your test Mondeo dahboard I bought some time ago from you. Buying this revburner and add it to the dashboard is a little bit of overkill.
This new revburner on the other hand would be a nice addition to the Mondeo Dashboard to make the fuel gauge and water temp work.

The new board will soon have an expansion board to drive those 12v bulbs on the dashboard. and yes, you will be able to drive fual and water temp. gauges.

I have bought a dashboard like yours to do more testing. Soon I will be able to tell you how fuel and water temp gauges work.

What I meant to say is that I already have two revburners. It's going to be too much if I should buy this revburner as weel, just to drive the other gauges.

Hi Cristiano,
why you don't use mini or micro usb instead normal BIG USB?

I don't know why I didn't think of using a smaller USB connector.
The bigger connector is cheaper and space wasn't a problem so I thought it was fine.

But next version will have a mini usb connector.

I think the larger USB is better, just because with the mini usb the cables are all short. My dash is not close enough to use the standard length mini USB and I have yet to find some linger than 4 feet in length.

Well, I know I was pretty harsh back then, but when you spend some hefty cash on the gauges you get a little bent when you can't run them. I know not his fault, and I now feel bad about it. But all I can say is I'm liking what I'm seeing and so far it's awesome! More info soon!!!

I will do a complete PDF and video here soon, still have a few things that are being completed. I promise you will be very excited for this to be release as there has only been one other controller board that ran gauges and that company is no longer around. This board will fill the gap that has been missing for so so long.

Here is a video with my Alfa 33 QV's cluster. The needles seems not set up very well but it's due to the camera which was lower than the cluster, in real they're in the exact same speed as the game.
