Recieved the firmware by mail today! Thanks! :)

However I still have problems with the bootloader...

It hangs halfway during the initialization phase. Trired a bounch of different compability modes (Win Xp, vista, win 7 etc. etc.) and also launching it with admin rights. No change...

Any ideas? Using Win 8 Pro 64-bit

See attached picture.

Excelent! :)

Can the software be configured to use screens in "portrait-mode", i.e. the screen turned 90* to the "normal" way of viewing it?

My rig is kind of limited width-wise, but could probably fit a 7" if i mounted it in portrait mode.

OK, resendt. Also posting it here to make sure:

Not the best picture, but kind of tight space in my rig, and only got a cellphone-camera in there... Hopefully enough to identify the board.

Any news on progress of this software?

Also, does anyone know of cheap 4,3-5 inch displays, that could be used? I dont have space for a 7" in my rig...

HAving rebuilt my racepit, and not been using the Simscreen for a while, I downloaded SimDash 2. However it says my simscreen needs a firmware upgrade. Where can I find the latest simscreen firmware? I looked on the downloads page, but could not find any simscreen firmware...

Also have issues getting the bootloader to read my simscreen, even if it is in program mode. The green bar hangs half way and never progresses. Using Win 8 pro 64-bit.

General Discussions / Pro Shift - steady lights "always on"
« on: September 13, 2011, 11:04:48 am »
Hi!

Is it possible to use the Pro Shift to have some LED's "always on"?

I am thinking of using some of the LED's as backlight for my guage cluster, and it would be nice if I could define som of the LED's to be "always on".

Or even better, make some of the LED's turn on as long as the car has the ignition on/engine running! :)

I suppose a board to drive rev counter, speedometer and additional gauges would cost less than 3 rev burners.
I think you should wait if you can

I am in the process of building my cockpit now. (Going for a sidepod setup with ACT LABs shifter, Fanatecs Handbrake (when it is released...), and Fahim's "Ferrari Dials" (http://www.symprojects.com/forum/index.php?topic=41.0)

So, I have have a bit of time befor I "need" the new gauge controller. However, I allready own 2 x revburners, and 2 tachos (one for speed and one for revs), so that cost is already "sunk".
If the new product is a board to controll ALL the guages, that would make my revburners obsolete. Would be practial though, just haveing one "master guage board", instead of up to 5 boards with their own powersupply and usb cables...

I would also be more than happy to test out new beta software that use revburners to display other data.

Well, it depends on the cost realy...

If/When your new product comes out it will be significantly cheaper than (in my case) two-three additional rev burners + two-three cheap tachos, then I would prefere to wait.

But since the "new product" is so far away, I have no hopes of getting a price range on it, and with that in mind, I would by two-three more revburners to run two-three more gauges, (fuel lvl, water temp and/or oil press.) if you are able to make a revburner "display anything".

Is there a limit to how many revburners you could have in one setup?

Maybe a new version of SimDash could just list Revburner No 1, Revburner No. 2 etc. etc. on the instruments tab, and then you get a pulldown box to select what you want that revburner to show. (Speed, RPM, fuel, oil press, turbo press etc etc.)

Could this be done in software only, using revburners and cheap tachometer motors?

I am currently making a set of gauges (tachometer, speedo, fuel, water temp). If the revburners could read the data from the game, it would be possible to use a tachometer motor to drive the fuel and water temp needles.

What I'm suggesting is a "Revburners for fuel/water temp/oil press", kind of the same software update as the "revburner for speed".

General Discussions / New SimScreen in Color?
« on: August 12, 2011, 12:18:41 pm »
I have a simscreen and it workshop great. However as we know it's only monochrome display, relatively low resolution and also has a fair amount of lag in it. All this is understandable, from a pricing point of view.

Which got me thinking... A lot of new cars now adays has gotten rid of the standard "mechanical" instruments, and provide eighter a part of the instrument cluster, or all of it, with a color LCD screen to display information to the driver.

So the question is, would it be possible to make a color SimScreen?

The price would certainly go up, but maybe not by much. Looking at this site http://www.ponoko.com/make-and-sell/materials/ponoko-united-states?category=LCDs to compare prices of a color vs. Monochrome display, it is not THAT much more expensive. (10-20$, the PSP display looks pretty sweet)
Surly the software for designing color graphics also would need work, so that would probably also add to the "Color SimScreen" also...

Yes, I'm using the Simscreen bootloader.

I am using USB hubs. (two powered hubs actually, my USB wire is just over 10m...)

So that is probably the problem. I will connect it directly to my pc tomorrow an see if that works!

Thanks for the reply! Execlent support as allways! :)

I'm having trouble with the simscreen bootloader.

When I put the simscreen board in program mode, and run the simscreen bootloader, the bootloader software tells me that the device is connected, but the progres bar stops.
I've tried to run it severeal times, and the progress bar stops at approx 70% if I first power up the simscreen in program mode, the run the bootloader, and it stops at approx. 10% if I have the bootloader open when I power up the board in program mode. (I know the last approach is not as described, but though I'd try it just to see if it worked...)

I'm guessing that this is a windows 7 64bit issue, since I have not had problems before when I ran 32-bit.

I have tried to run the program in compability mode (viste, XP and so forth), and also as administrator, but no luck...

However, I just upgraded the SPI-D on the same 64-bit machine, and that worked fine, so I'm a bit puzzled...

Using the SimScreen for the RACE series, there are a few data items missing. Tire temp devided into L/C/R, tire press, brake temp, sector times, etc. etc.

I have discovered that there is a tool called Real Time Telemetry that can read thease values, and several others while you race, so I'm guessing it is possible to somehow grab that data...

Cristiano, do you think that it would be possible to add more data extraction from the RACE series for use with the simscreen?

RTT can be downloaded here if you want to take a look: http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=25143

Hi again!

Your investigation paid off! Launching SimDash in administrator mode worked!

Thank you!

I have to say, your companies support is excellent!  :)  Not like so many others that gives you some generic half-assed answer to your question...  8) Keep up the good work!
