Pro-Race Display (Lite?)
« on: November 02, 2012, 01:53:25 am »
I've sent a few e-mails concerning plans to add something like the Pro-Race Display (PRD) to the top of my SRW-S1 wheel (Which will be attached to a Logitech base).. The communication has been fantastic, but I didn't want to keep bugging them with simple questions and thoughts when I can post here.. :)

With the SRW-S1, I already have shift lights and wouldn't want a second set which is added with the PRD.. I was wondering if anyone knew of an alternative to the PRD that would give me all of the features without the shift lights?? I have looked at the DLC-247 with the 3 individual pieces with 3 digit, gear, and 6 digit readouts.. The downside to that is the loss of the extra LEDs for warning lights.. I could use the PRD and simply disable the shift lights, which is definitely an option.. I was just wondering what others thought?? Oh, how I wish they offered a LITE version without the shift lights.. It might save on costs and space.. Heheh..

what about using the DLC-247 for the 3-digit displays but also for the extra LEDs for warning lights?

That is something I considered, but quite honestly, that is where my technical deficiencies arise.. Heheh.. This is all rather new to me, and though I've been dealing with computers for well over 30 years, my expertise is definitely not in this area.. That's why I'm asking for advice here, because I simply am not quite sure what the options are to achieve what I'm looking for.. As I stated, the Pro-Race Display is fantastic, and though I could "hide" the RPM lights, I wanted to see what other options there were..

Either I've missed something, or the dimension specifications for the PRD aren't listed.. Can anyone tell me what the width of the PRD's bottom is when housed in the mounting unit?? If I do try to go that path, I'd like to make sure it will fit properly across the top of the SRW-S1.. The straight section at the top of the SRW-S1, which is where I want to mount this, is 3 inches wide by 1 and 1/8 inch deep..

I am going to look at the DLC-247 a bit more to see what can be done with it and the available displays.. I think the one thing I'm not seeing ( or simply don't know how to do ) is the warning lights.. :)

tell me exactly what/how many displays you would like to mount, and I will tell you your options

I want the features of the Pro-Race Display without the shift lights.. 3-digit readout, larger 1-digit readout for gear, 6-digit readout for laptime.. 3 LEDs left and right of those readouts for warning lights.. 3 LEDs left and right UNDER those readouts for other features.. Again, more or less like the PRD just without the RPM LEDs..

I think the biggest issue will be size.. The portion of the wheel where this would be mounted is only 3 inches wide, meaning I'm limited as far as making this fit properly.. I don't want it to look like it's something just thrown together..

I'll more than likely have to go with the PRD just because it's the only thing that features everything I want and is readily available..

The DLC-247 would be ideal to connect those displays and LEDs.
The only issue is the space

I've ordered the PRD, and it's been shipped already.. Can't wait to get it, though it will take some time to design the mounting system and route the cable(s) properly.. I'll try to post pictures here when it is completed..
