My Cockpit build WIP (Chris P Duck)
« on: March 29, 2011, 09:20:06 am »
Well this is my cockpit build so far...

I've taken a slightly different approach to what seems to be the "norm" and welded a frame from steel box sections. It doesn't look as nice as most on here but its compact (I have a Mrs enforced size limit  :-[ ). It's also on wheels so it can easily be shifted out the way while not in use. The wheel is in the early stages so don't worry it wont be left this ugly! (I'm just trialing a cardboard plate first to check im happy with all the positions before i get it made from carbon fibre  ;)

Feel free to comment (the dash is from a 99 vectra sri by the way)

Hello,

How many power supply do you use? What are her powers (V and A)?
How did you choose?

Thanks, and congratulations for your work.

Bye.

I'm using just the one supply for the 2 rev burners. this is fine for mine (though I changed the lights for LED's so the dash draws less current) Mine is 12v unregulated 2amp and this works fine for mr (it's from an old net gear router)

Hello,

Thanks for your answer, your cockpit is very beautiful, and I'm impressed by your work.
Are you tried to run some lights on your dashboard as additional LED from SLI-M?
I have that Idea for my future Dashboard, because I have an SLI-Pro and I want to run the light indicator for headlights, oil temperature and other with my SLI would be great ...

Thanks.

A+.

I had thought of this but I'm going to wait for the "pro shift" controller for a few reasons, my sli-m is mounted on my wheel and I've passed the USB for this up the centre of the wheel so it can still spin without getting tangled up. If I want this to drive LED's on the dash I'd need to feed more wires back down the centre, I'm worried about having too many in there. Also the "pro shift" can drive a lot more LED's and looks a lot more customisable. From the looks of it the pro shift will also be easier to set up by using a GUI rather than editing a text file.

Very nice rig! I'm definitely planning to go down the 3 monitor route when money permits.

you're only using one burner to control the rev PRM, and speedometer?
would not need to rev two burner?

I'm using just the one supply for the 2 rev burners.

He is using 2 revburners, the second one isn't visible in the pictures.

Takes some getting used to but I like it. I may change the rubber part as there really is no give in it. My pedals are welded to the metal frame and it's calibrated so you have to push it HARD to lock the wheels up but there's still only maybe 1cm's travel. Feels like your trying to squeeze a brick! Haven't had it long though so I guess it may soften up once it's bedded in.

Basically what you have to do is to connect the +, - and S1 terminals  of the rev burner to the dashboard.
Terminal + and - are 12V and ground. the S1 terminal sends the signal for the rev counter.

The hard part is to find where on the dashboard you have to connect the wires. Unless somebody has already worked with the same dashboard and has shared the information, you will have to investigate yourself where the 12V and rev counter signal have to be connected on the dashboard.

I found very useful to download the PDF with the maintenance manual of the car. often there is information on the wiring of the dashboard and connector description.

It's quite a bit of work, I know.Another option you have is to use a standalone aftermarket rev counter. that's very easy to connect because it has only 3 wires and comes with instructions
