Yellow Red Flag Race Conditions LEDs
« on: April 20, 2013, 03:19:39 am »
Hi Cristiano,

Online suppliers are able to provide commercial emergency vehicle LEDs for sale to the general public.  These LEDs are used on actual emergency vehicles. The LEDs come in a myriad of colors, shapes, combinations, pulsing, strobing, programmable, etc.  These typically operate at 12V DC.

For my sim rig, I'd like to use some of these LEDs to indicate Yellow Flag race conditions. The 12V supply would be run thru a relay.  Can a relay be interfaced with the DLC247 ?

I had a hobbyist circuit board that closed a relay when a low-voltage signal was received from a source.  For the source, I used the voltage from the DLC247 that powers a single LED when a race went into Yellow Flag. Unfortunately, my experiment resulted in a burned out DLC247.

Can you recommend/provide a setup to make this happen?

Hello.

I think it could be possible to do something like what you described, but you should use the PRo-Shift instead of the DLC-247.

The reason is that with the DLC-247 the LEDs are multiplexed. that means that the LEDs are not ON all the time, but switch ON and OFF very quickly. so this wouldn't work well with a relay.

The PRo-Shift instead keeps the LEDs 100% of the time and could possibly work with a relay.
but it has to be investigated.
