Progauge Fuel Percentage (iracing + SPEK)
« on: October 03, 2013, 02:25:00 am »
Hi Christiano,

The spek fuel level gauge (one with the , E ,1/4,1/2.3/4 F) I have seems to be really jumpy when setting up with the pro-gauge software, I can set up the fuel to get close enough to the mark during setup. and in game , but one little ptoblem is it goes up and down too quick/much

Ie, if I click "up" once (in the fuel level Percentage % setting , the needle would jump 2 strips makes it hard to be accurate.

so while driving, when the fuel hit 50% , the needle will hit 1/2 and little more and 90% needle will hit a bit more than 3/4 , but during less than 9l left. the needle would point to E =Empty and lights starts to blink, is this what everyone is experiencing or it's just my gauge?
can someone confirm that they have the same finding or put their value here please.
thank you

Cristiano

Hello.
Does your Pro-Gauge look like this one:

because the one in the picture (that is the latest version) has jumpers that you can move to reduce its sensitivity in situations like yours

I'm pleased to report that the Pro-gauge has arrived in good nick to my house  ;)

I have been working on connecting it upto a BMW E36 guagecluster and most of the dials i got working.

Yet.. i'm stuck at the fuelsensor.
On the first 3 jumpersettings i can get the Fuelgauge to jump up to different numbers (60 ltr tank)      One time i had it jump to 35 ltr, one time to 60, and once at 45.   Nothing would happen if i hit the "test"button, as i have it installed on S1.  Untill i would move the slider of the first (0%) testbeam, then it would jump up and be stuck there.   Think i even had it slowly run out of fuel as i was fiddling with the speedo-setupscreen.

I've even tried the little Signal adapter, but to no avail... as soon as the fuelguage got stuck, it wouldn't budge for anything.    Even found the strangest thing:
If i'd do a cold start:    Plug in the usb then plug in the poweradapter, then start up simdash, the dashboard would stay in "startupmode" (with bars on the bottom of the display indicating service or something). No guages would move, UNTIL i hit the RMP test, at say 1070rpm, then drop it back again to 210rpm. Then the dash would "unfreeze" and immediate the tempguage runs up to max, unless i go into the S2 (which is hooked to the Tempguage) and test it on 50%. Funny thing is also, that as soon as i disconnected the simdash, AND the USB, the tempguage would just continue to go up as the engine was revving  a bit.

Anyways... as sayd.. i cant get the fuelgauge to work, i've tried it on two near identical clusters, both give me a fail.

I've read someone elses post, i think it was a friend of Jadran, who.. with some ingenuity, got a dutch friend to help him and they did get the fuelguage working properly. The guy sayd to not use the GRD (ground) on the black connector .. but that didn't work... there's gotta be something else.     I'm in the Netherlands, so where is that guy?!  hahaha

Anyways.. apart from the fuelgauge i recon everything is just fine.

Only other report that i can make is that there's a bit of lag between actual revs in the game and the revs on the actual dashboard, doesn't bother me much, but maybe there's a fix for it somewhere.

think that's it, for now.      Hope you can make something of my typingspree.

Oh yah... almost failed to show you my gratitude:

Quite surreal... the ODOmeter was up in the 60 Km's.... and i hadn't moved an inch! ;)   Thanks for your great inventions Christiano!

Regards,

Steiny

Hmm.. i might just have to go all out with switches on this dash, to simulate the ignitionswitch.   Dont know why, but i read this topic and might think it would work.
Somehow if the ignitionswitch is in the number 1 (acc) position, and you fill up the tank, it can easily get confused.. I recon someone in the designdepartment went ape there.

Will get back in a few days when i've had time to explore the weirdness that is an E36 dashboard..

no mine, does not have the jumper settings. wow. If only this came out earlier. is that mean I have to re-buy the whole pcb which makes the old one obsolete.
