hi just a few questions.
« on: September 06, 2011, 01:30:28 pm »
Hi there im interested in purchasing the rev burner board, however im kind of stuck on what dials to use, im wanting some clocks out of a car but im not sure which will work and which will not, So i then opted to go for the type r tacho, but could i connect something to the rev burner to tell me my speed along with the type r tacho?

ive got quite a good home made cockpit so far and a good build log for it if you fancy a look its here.
http://ice-cruise.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=242

i play LFS so ive herd the rev burner is compatible and read it on the site

thanks for reading guys.

Hi.
Welcome to the forum.

To display speed you can use  an analog speedometer or a digital one like the SPI-D display that you find on the website.

Regard analog speedometers, they tend to be on the expensive side and in general you can't find them on Ebay.

www.autometer.com has a good selection of pricey gauges.

That tach should work perfectly. Just set it to 4 cylinders, calibrate it in simdash and you're racing.

Currently, the RevBurner supports tachometers and speedometers. Cristiano is working on support for other instruments, but this may require a controller board to be purchased separately.

hi again, ive took the plunge and ordered the rev burner, im stil not 100% as t which tachos to go for

either mk2 mondeao or a typer kind of style :/ , i suppose if i went with the mondeao i could drive both off one board, and save myself some cash as i wouldnt have to buy a top speed display ;)

any idea on postage time? and is it easy enough to wire up the mondeao tacho's, i have resonable knowlage of soldering and electrics etc :)

One RevBurner will only be able to run one type of gauge at a time. To drive a complete dashboard you will need at least 2 RevBurners and a power supply providing enough power to all components.

A single RevBurner could however drive multiple tachometers(or speedometers) at the same time. Just not both types at once. You'd have to provide enough power for all gauges, which I doubt the onboard regulator can handle, so you'll need to connect the gauges directly to an external power supply.

Another problem with this setup is the inability to calibrate each gauge individually. With the same number of pulses, you could get different RPM or speed readouts on multiple gauges.

There is a schematic for connecting multiple RevBurners to a dash using a single power supply hidden away here

I did have some trouble finding the schematic, as there's both a documentation section and an FAQ containing only the power supply info. Cristiano, could these be grouped together?

Hi.
If you connect the full dashboard to the rev burner, you need a proper power supply, like 3A at least.
Also you should connect the power supply following this schema:

If instead you use a tachometer similar to TYPE-R's, a simple walmart PSU is fine.

The power supplies sold on the website are good for single rev counters, they can't power a full dashboard.
