What is the output signal range of a rev burner?

Hi Folks,

unfortunatly I can`t find any information about the output signal the rev burner is capable to generate? :(

Wouldn`t it be a great idea to pass such an important information on to the users? For example: My dash will need a 5Vss rectangular, frequency modulated signal for tach as well as speedo, for topspeed it has to be up to around 3.5khz.... if I´d have the output specifications it would be pretty easy for me to decide wether I can place an order for 2 rev burner units or not. Right now I can`t. I`m from Germany and I don`t want to order things from outside if I`m not 100% sure that I can make them work afterwards!

The whole forum here is full of questions like: "I can`t get the rev burner to work with my XYZ-dashboard!" so why not specifying clear and precise what output signals are possible? IMHO this would be a major step forward because a lot of people who are into simd are quite familiar with basic electronic knowledge.....

Hello.
Thank you for your suggestions.

I am sure somewhere in the website it is indicated that the signal output of the rev burner is a square wave at 12V, able to drive rev counter up to 17.000 RPM when the the rev counter is configured for 4 cylinder engines.

Regarding the speedometer, this page:

contains some information regarding the signal and its frequency.
This information will be obsolete soon because the new version of SImDash will  make the rev burner able to output a signal with double the frequency. The new version is due for today or tomorrow.

If you have suggestions on other information I could add, I will be happy to do so.

Hello Cristiano,

thank you for your explantions. I`ve read the things you`ve mentioned already before I posted here, but still I don`t understand why you don`t want to specify the FREQUENCY range of the output signal? ???

It might be ok to state a certain rpm when we`d only consider a 4cyl engine but how does it perform when a speedsensor output needs to be simulated? In that case your arguments wouldn´t fit because there`s a lot of different speedsensors on the market- some work on the camshaft, others work on the sprocket of the gearcase (motorbike) and so on.....

It would be so easy if you just could state: 0 to 12Vss ranging from 0- XY kHz, so why do you make such a secret of it? I could even sit down and measure it, but like I said before: I won`t order and pay to find out lateron that it doesn`t work for my dash!

Well, it's not a secret. SimDash even displays the frequency of the signal, in pulse per minute.

Anyway, the rev burner signal is at 12V, it's a square wave and the frequency varies from 0 to around 580 Hz.
Same think when the rev burner is using the firmware for the speedometer.
As I said with next version of SimDash, the firmware for the speedometer will create a signal with  a max frequency just above 1Khz.

I was reading on the x-sim forum one of your comment saying "why re-inventing your wheel" or something close to. And you were talking about the availability on ffb controler to do your own wheel.

Did i read and understand right? if so can you help me find some.

“UNDERSTEER” is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
“OVERSTEER” is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
“HORSEPOWER” is how fast you hit the fence.
“TORQUE” is how far you take the fence with you.
