Nothing working
« on: December 10, 2011, 10:00:37 pm »
Connected rev burner to my Auto meter 6858 tach and opened the SimDash, it told me I needed to update to version 2. I made a jumper cable and with the bootloade installed version 2. Then proceeded to config tach in the confiq screen, nothing worked in their. Then I tried connecting my GI Max, in the SimDash it showed it was not connected and I required another firmware, found that one and installed it via the bootloader. So now in the SimDash it shows the GI Max as connected but no light comes on. In the SimDash now it shows the rev burner disconnected. Is there any way to get the two to work? Nothing but total frustration at this point. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Well after some more tweaking I got the GI Max working. The Tach is not working consistently. In the SimDash at least both the Tach and GI Max are now connected. I tried different cars in iRacing, all were 8 cylinders. The Corvette seemed to work alright. I seem to have a problem getting over 6000 RPM, in the Falcon RPM were off by at least 1000 RPM. Also I don't know how to set the shift light. I appreciate any help.

Hello.

In general you don't need to change the firmware because the devices are shipped with the latest firmware and ready to plug in.

Anyway it seems that the rev burner and GI Max are detected by SImDash, so the firmwares should be OK at this point.

I think you can solve the problem of getting over 6000 rpm and the 1000 rpm offset just configuring the rev burner properly, in the configuration screen.

What tachometer are you using? I am asking because the tachometer must be set to work with 4, 6 or 8 cylinders. DO you know how your tachomneter is configured? Ideally you want 4 cylinders...

First off thank you Cristiano for your help and a wonderful product. I am not sure if it was a problem with any USB on my computer but when I plugged in the GI Max, Windows said drivers failed to install (Windows 7 64) Then after I sorted that, in SimDash it said GI Max was not connected and required a firmware version 2 update, the same thing for the Rev Burner. This was connected directly to my computer BTW. After I re-flashed the firmware it then worked, is it possible as it came through Canada Customs they zapped it with their Rayon X-ray Gun?  ;D

The tachometer I have is the  Auto Meter 6858. The manual is Here The only thing I can see in the manual is it ships set at 4PPR. For iRacing I drove the 8 cylinder Ford GT, in the Rev Burner configuration screen I tried testing each PPM and it seemed I could not reach the RPM that was required. I tried importing various profiles. For the 8 cylinder there were only an 8000 RPM, I also set the max value to 11,000 RPM. The RPM on the on screen Tach did not match my Tach, mine was at least 1000 RPM below.

Then with the Lotus 79 which has an 8 cylinder and red line's at 11,000 RPM, I can get my Tach to around 8,000 RPM. Also I do not know how to set the shift indicator light. On Friday I had zero knowledge with the Rev Burner or a Tach, today I feel much more confident but I need to learn more about my Tach.

thank you
Darren

I do believe my Tach is set for an 8 cylinder, with the config screen I imported a 8000 RPM profile and tested each one. I then opened iRacing and the Ford GT and low and behold the onscreen Tach matched my Tach. Now if I could get help in setting the Tach up for a 4 cylinder engine and a 6 cylinder engine. Also I still can not figure out how to get the shift light to work, any help would be most appreciated.

BTW when I was driving the Ford GT the immersion factor was incredible,  I am thinking of getting another Rev Burner for a Speedometer. Is there any limit to how many Rev Burners can be used simultaneously on one PC?

thank you
Darren

Success!!!  Got it figured out, after passing a big brain fart it all made sense (sort of) I got my Tach set to a 4 cylinder and took out the 8 cylinder Lotus 79 and she red lined at 11,000 RPM and the shift light lit up at 11,000 RPM. I'm going to do more testing with other Cars and hopefully I won't have any more problems.

cheers

Good news everything works.
As nescafe37 said it's better if you leave the tacho set to 4 cylinders, so you can push it all the way up to rpm. The number of cylinders the tacho is set to is not related to number of cylinders of the car you are driving in the simulators.

You can have a second rev burner that will drive the speedometer. On the website there is a specific firmware for the rev burner that must be used when the rev burner is connected to a speedometer.

Regards
Cristiano

I will be looking into getting another Rev burner for a Speedometer, finding one here in Canada might be a challenge. I will start looking soon. Thanks everyone for the help on my Tachometer.
