Planning my first Sim...
« on: December 16, 2011, 11:51:47 am »
Hi all,

Really pleased i found this site and SymProjects prodcuts!

Im starting to plan my first Sim. I have been racing on games consoles for a very long time and currnetly have racing seat, frame and Microsoft XBOX 360 Wheel. The good news is the wheel works with PC based games, but the drivers do not support force feedback, which is a real shame (if anyone can write drivers for it please do! The librarys are there apprently, but microsoft did not finish the job!)

So to start with i will be keeping the MS wheel and pedals. I will make a clutch.

I am looking at using a complete dash and have my eye on the BMW e36.  I want speed, rpm, gear indicator and shift lights and think i will mount the gear indicator where the head light bulbs are on the dash...although not got it so guessing!

If anyone has an old working dash (any make) they want to sell im interested!

I currently have NetKar Pro which i love, but as i understand is not supported on SimDash. So i am looking for an alternative. iRacing is too expensive. rFactor seems good and i could wait for rFactor2 to be released. Dont know about LFS, the demo seems a bit basic.

Any adice on which software?

I have a 50" plasma TV and a couple of 22" widescreens which i intend to use as mirrors, i know this is possible with some software.

Hello.
I can't really help with the choice of what simulator to play, but if it helps this page:

www.symprojects.com/go/simdata

contains a list of what data can be used with every simulator.

rFactor probably is the one that supports most of the features.

Regards
Cristiano

Great! Certainly looks like rFactor has all the features i would want. Do you know when rFactor2 is going to be released?

With all the supported features i might consider a custom dash rather than using an existing car cluster, although i think the cost would be higher.
