Ford mondeo dash pinout
« on: April 07, 2011, 08:38:17 pm »
Hi all. I've just bought a Mondeo dash to replace my Vectra cluster (couldn't drive the speedo all the way up on the Vectra dash)

I heard people have had success with this one? Does anyone have a pinout for this dash (mk3)

Cheers in advance

Completely unrelated but is it likely that need for shift 2 will be supported?

Cheers Nescafe. Yeah I saw in one of his posts that he'd used a mondeo dash which is why I went for one. Just hoping he (or someone else) can point me in the direction of a pinout. My googling has failed to bring up anything useful!

Hello.
I think my Mondeo dashboard is from a mk3.
Sunday I will send you a diagram with my connection and a picture of the back of the dashboard. I won't be at home until the end of the week.

Cheers

display the connections of my Ford Mondeo dashboard.
There is some extra wiring to make the backlight work as well.

1: rpm signal
2,4: 12V
9: speedometer signal
3,5,6,7,8: ground

Cheers

Cheers for the prompt reply as always.

I guess one of us doesn't have a mk3 dash as mine looks different (well the front does, I haven't seen the back yet. It's an eBay purchase and hasn't arrived yet) my fingers crossed that at least some of the wiring is the same!

Where is the best place to find cluster pinout data? My dash is very different from Cristiano's (a single grey connector) I've tried extensive google and a Haynes manual but no joy.

Hello.
I googled:

mk3 mondeo service manual

and got few results but I didn't check them so I don't know if they are good or not.

Cheers

Still no joy finding a pinout for the mk3 dash :-( even managed to get hold of a Ford TIS disc (technical information system) it's got everything but what I need! it details what colour wire connects to which pin, and a block diagram for the cluster, but nothing that shows which pin does what! Aghhh. Anyone have any suggestions? As above I've tried a Haynes manual and googling (including "Mondeo Service Manual") but no joy.

I've even ripped it apart on the hope I could trace the tracks but they are extremely thin and double sided, most of them seem to go into some ICs swell which doesn't help!

Are you sure the dash uses RPM pulse input?

Newer cars have switched over to CAN bus or a similar system. So they don't use an RPM signal directly. Instead, the data is sent over a serial connection running throughout the entire vehicle.

Sadly, if this is the case with your dashboard, the RevBurner cannot drive it. Unless you find a way to emulate the serial bus used by Ford, I doubt you can make it work without swapping out the internals of the instruments.

As to why Christiano can drive his yet you can't, this could be explained by a refresh. Manufacturers update their products throughout their lifetime, so this revision of the dash could be newer then Christiano's.

Crud, cheers for the help anyway guys. I think Christiano's is mk2. Back on eBay it goes! shame as I like the layout, too much work to replace all the internals though. Fingers crossed a mk2 comes up cheap soon.
