Need some DLC247 help
« on: June 17, 2014, 11:43:02 pm »
I have a DLC247 and 50 5050 SMD RGB LED (http://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/component-leds/rgb-5050-smd-led-120-degree-viewing-angle/322/)

I want to use them for a Caution/Green/Blue flag light system for iRacing.

So I was wondering if it would work like this

16  LED's set to green Channel for Green Flags
16  LED's set to the blue channel for blue flags
16  LED's set yo to the red and green channels for yellow flags

Is this possible with the DLC247, if so how would I wire this up to work?

If someone would be nice to help it would be great!

Thanks

Hi mike,

I use 8 RGB Led with common anode with my dlc-247 for RPM and other data (8 physical leds = 24 lights) and everything works well, i don't know if in iRacing the flag data come to be displayed but in other sim works perfectly.

The SMD RGB LED you have linked seem to haven't a common anode but they should work fine so you need to wire like a simple monocolor led.

You need to wire the led pin 6, 7, 8, to pin 17 of dlc-247 and the pin 1, 2, 3, to the dlc-247 pin 1, 2, 3.

Hello.
i checked the specs of those LEDs and they should work fine.

regarding the connections, you should keep this page as a reference:

http://www.symprojects.com/dlc-247-configuration/

it contains everything you need to know. but if it is not clear or you have doubts, please let me know.

Ok I'm using regular LED's. Can someone draw me up a diagram for regular LED, I see the DLC can do a lot of leds and I want to have 10 per flag. I'm a little lost because I cant seem to figure out how to get them wired.

Thanks.

Hello.
Please tell me if this picture if clear enough:

http://www.symprojects.com/wp-content/uploads/DLC247_9562/DLC2472.jpg

from this page:
http://www.symprojects.com/dlc-247-configuration/

in that picture 1 display has been replaced by 8 LEDs (a 7 segment display is internally made by 8 LEDs).

All the positive pins of the 8 LEDs are connected to pin 17 (pin 17, 18, 19, 20 all connect to the positive side of LEDs and 7-segment displays)

then the 8 negative pins of the LEDs are connected to pin 1-8. (pins 1-8 and 9-16 always connect to the negative side of LEDs and 7-segment displays).

LEDs always go in group of 8, because they replace a 7-segment display that as I said is composed of 8 LEDs (7 segments + decimal point).

If I haven't done too much confusion and you followed me, I can expand to more LEDs.

Regards

It makes since now, I don't know what I was thinking. But how many LEDs can you connect per Connector A, Connector B, Connector C?

Each of the 24 displays that can be connected to the controller can be replaced with a group of 8 LEDs.
so in theory you can have up to 192 LEDs, connected to the controller.

Each connector A,B, and C takes 8 displays, equivalent to 64 LEDs.
