dlc pre purchase questions...
« on: June 27, 2012, 12:22:07 am »
Hello, was wondering if I need the splitter or splitters for the dlc in my application? Would it make it easier. Haven't wrapped my noggin around the wiring side of it yet on how you know which led your working with in the configuration. Building a dash panel and will have 72+ leds, a gear and speed display. May Add 2 more 3 digit displays for water and oil temps if have room.
Thanks in advance for help.

Hello.
It's hard to say without knowing the details of the connection but I think it is likely you will need at least a couple of splitter. I would get thrre to stay on the safe side.

I just wanted to confirm, will use of the splitter(s) increase the total number of LED outputs over 192?
For example:
Would adding 1 splitter increase the total by 64, and adding 3 increase it to 384 (double)?

Also a hypothetical question, so not in my plans (although mine are getting a bit crazy!):
Would it be possible to stack multiple splitters on top of each other?

Hello.

If you see how the displays and LEDs are connected to the controller:

you will notice that the pins of the connectors are shared among a group of displays and LEDs.

the pin splitters is meant to make connections easier because they replicate the connectors. But you could do without and probably the wiring would become more complicated but you would still be able to drive 192 LEDs or 24 displays.

you can stack the pin splitter one on top of another if you want.

Ahh I see, I don't mind the complicated wiring, it makes it more fun! Thanks for the help. I guess I need 2 DLCs!

I ended up with 3 splitters and have 7 free pins. Got 4 3 digit displays, 1 single digit, and 50 leds. It gets pretty congested at the dlc by the time you get it all hooked up. Once you wrap your head around the setup and are its pretty simple.
