Rev Burner not Working
« on: August 11, 2012, 04:11:07 pm »
I am trying to setup rev burner with a TypeR rev counter. The rev counter has been tested on a actual vehicle and is working fine.
I have put the White & Red wires from the rev counter on the + of Rev Burner and the black wire from the rev counter on the - of rev burner. The green wire (going to coil on actual vehicle) from the rev counter was added to S1 on the rev burner.
12v 1A Power supply was plugged into the power socket on rev burner and usb plugged in.
Sim Dash show that the rev burner is detected by there is no lights on the rev counter and pressing the test button on the software result in nothing.
OK, dismantle everything and connect another power supply (Regulated 13.8v 3A) red directly to the rev counter (White & Red wire) and the black to the - on the rev burner and the black wire of the rev counter based on schema below:

Now I have lights on the rev counter but "Test" from SIM Dash still result in nothing.
Playing Dirt 3 and my GI-Pro works 100%, but still nothing on the rev counter.
??? What am I doing wrong, or is the rev burner faulty out the box?

Hello.
you should also connect the red wire of the power supply to the + terminal of the rev burner

Thanks for the quick reply.
I have tried that and the rev counter is still not moving when pressing any of the "Test" buttons.

I will try it in a game but I am sure that if the Test button doesn't work then surely it won't work in the game either.

OK, the change on the power supply did not work. The Rev counter still doesn't do anything.

I have pick up another problem on Dirt 3.
On Dirt 3 you need to set the following line:

<motion enabled="true" ip="127.0.0.1" port="20777" delay="1" extradata="1" />

If I set it as above the game crash when going over the finish line of a race.
I am using Dirt 3 on Steam.
When changing the above line back to extradata="0", Dirt 3 works fine without any problems, but then the SIM Equipment doesn't work.

Hi.
the problem with Dirt3 is well known and it appeared when the latest patch was released.
The only workaround is not to install the patch but I am not sure that is possible with the Steam version.

Regarding the rev counter, can you post more details of the unit you are using? is it from a car?
the way you have connected the rev counter and the rev burner is correct. the power supply which comes with the rev burner wasn't powerful enough to turn the backlight on, that's the reason you had to use a bigger one.
My feeling is that the rev counter is not compatible with the rev burner. sometimes it happens with dashboards from cars, because they might use different type of signals.

But I can replace your rev burner, so we are sure the problem is not there.

thanks
Cristiano

Hi.
Yip, not possible to go back to the old patch. That is fine because the problem clearly lies with Dirt 3.   ::)
Will see if I can find a work-around on that.

The Rev counter is a standard TypeR, Item No 33027SW-R. It is standard off the shelf stuff. I just tested it on a car to make sure it is working the way it should.
Is there a way I can test the pulse from the S1 port with a standard volt meter to see if there is anything supplied through the port, before you send me a new rev burner?

the signal from the rev burner is a 12V square wave, so if you connect a voltmeter you should see the average value, which is 6V.

Perfect, thanks. I am out of town this week, but will test it on Friday and advice if I get a signal.
