Questions regarding Rev Burner
« on: October 20, 2012, 08:03:03 pm »
Hi,

I'm thinking about getting a Rev Burner, however i'm a little confused so i would like to ask a few questions.

First, on the symprojects page about the Rev Burner, it tells something about the MAX rpm for 4, 6 and 8 cylinder engines, but there is nothing about 10 or 12 cylinder engines. So my question is does it not support engines with more than 8?

Secondly. I've been looking at getting this Great looking Tach from Auto Gauge. But it only supports 4 and 6 cylinder engines will this be a problem, like will it only work with 4 and 6 cylinders or won't it matter while using the Rev Burner?

Thanks in advance

The amount of cylinders referred to in the documentation applies to the tachometer only.

The RevBurner works by essentially simulating an engine. In a traditional ignition, a pulse is generated that drives the tachometer. The more cylinders the more pulses are generated per revolution. Because of this, the electronics in the RevBurner can work more efficiently with 4 cylinder tachometers, as less pulses are needed to show the same amount of RPM's on the dial.

The RevBurner doesn't "know" what car you're driving, it just gets told by the software to generate a certain amount of pulses. So the car you drive on your computer doesn't affect it.

I purchased an Auto Gauge that has a 11,000 RPM max. That is what you need to look at. What kind of racing do you do and what RPM do you need. I exclusively iRace so 11,000 RPM was what I need. This works for 4,6 and 8 cylinders. I don't know whether 10 and 12 cylinders are supported to be honest.

left888. Mostly Iracing like you, GTR 2, GT Legends and some Dirt 2 i also figured that 11.000RPM would be the right choice for me.
but i dont think i'll be getting the Auto Gauge i was looking at, maybe later on. I'm just gonna purschase a cheap gauge and see if i like it, and if i do then we'll see, anyway thanks for helping.
