Pro Shift with low current LEDs?
« on: February 26, 2012, 12:45:12 pm »
Hey there, I ordered the SPI-D and it is awesome :)
I'd like to built a "cockpit" with some additional lights.
The LED delivered with the SPI-D was far to bright in my opinion, a changed it to a low current LED.

The question is if I can order the proshift with low current LEDs? :)

I think non-transparent LEDs is what you need, they are less bright than the clear LEDs that come with the Pro Shift.

I can buy them for you if you want. it will take some extra days.
But I need to investigate what colours I can find. I am thinking of the blue LEDs for example.

Yes, that's what I am looking for.
I Would need red, green, orange and blue.
I think orange is not possible, I would take yellow instead, blue is difficult but not impossible.

I could order these LEDs for you:

http://www.rapidonline.com/Electronic-Components/5mm-Oval-high-power-LEDs-82709

red, yellow, green and blue. they are oval shaped. I think they are ok but I have't tested them.
They are more expensive that the LEDs that I usually buy. there could be a small extra cost if you decide to use them.

What does oval mean? The shape if you directly look at them?
Those data seem to be very bright as well...
I think 50 mcd max is more what I am looking for ;)
I am looking directly into those lights, I don't want to be flashed...
This is what I am planning.

Here is an example of LEDs I used for a small project:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YODCPScnP4

The yellow one is this: http://www.conrad.de/ce/de/product/184429/LED-5MM-GELB-TLHY5405
and the green one this: http://www.conrad.de/ce/de/product/184456/LED-5MM-GRUeN-TLHG5405

You can see it's relativly comfortable look at them ;)

Red should be this: http://www.conrad.de/ce/de/product/184402/LED-5MM-SUPERROT-TLHR5405
Just looking at the data theese ones look good
http://www.rapidonline.com/Electronic-Components/Standard-5mm-LED-61374
but they are only delivered in the quantaty of 100 or 1000 pieces :(

Can you buy the LEDs yourself? I don't have many places where I buy LEDs from so the offer is a bit limited. But maybe you have access to more sources, websites, Ebay...

Should not be the problem.
But I will need 10 of the panel mountings for the LED ;)

No problem.
you can order 8 panel mount LEDs and I will send you 10 with no LEDs.

The LEDs we were looking at are oval, I hope they will fit inside the LED supports

Hmm, I think I will buy all LEDs by myself, then I can take a look at them what they look like ;)
But it will be in a short while, not now...

What spec should we use for the LED's in general.  Do they need to 5v LED's or does your various 5V boards automatically allow resistance.

Thinking about using some 3mm LED's at a low forward voltage of around 2v on a DLC-247.

Actually whilst here, is there a min/typ/max volt spec for the 7 segment displays as well?

Any led or 7-segment display will work because the led drivers onboard the Pro Shift and DLC-247 take care of the forward voltage, ensuring that current flowing through the LED is always the same, even it the forward voltage changes.

Forgot to ask, was is the mcd Luminous Intensity/brightness of the LED's you supply so we can match them?

it goes from 7000mcd to 1000mcd, depending on the colour.

green and blue are a bit brighter than red and yellow.
